Charter School Leaders Letter of Support for National Service

Education is the single largest priority area for the Corporation for National and Community Service. AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members support students in nearly 12,000 traditional district, public charter and parochial schools nationwide, including more than 3,300 national service members who serve across more than 720 public charter schools, partnering with teachers and school leaders to help ensure students have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

This valuable resource for our schools and students is under threat. The White House’s FY18 budget proposal recommends the elimination of the Corporation for National and Community Service, AmeriCorps and Senior Corps.  If enacted, this would have devastating effects on national service programs nationwide and would strain the ability of public charter schools to meet student needs with the support of effective national service partners.

To document the support for national service among the charter school community, Voices for National Service has organized a letter of support from leaders of public charter schools and networks of public charter schools. 

Congress needs to hear from education leaders like you to understand the impact AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members are having in public charter schools across the country.  We hope you will add your name to this letter to demonstrate the critical role national service members play in strengthening your school community and ensuring students have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
