Congress passed a stopgap funding bill on September 25th, avoiding a government shutdown and delaying FY25 spending discussions until after the election.
The continuing resolution or CR maintains spending at FY24 enacted levels through December 20th. When members of Congress return to Capitol Hill following the November elections, they’ll have a five-week lame duck sprint to pass FY25 spending bills or another CR. Appropriations leaders in both the House and the Senate have expressed support for completing FY25 appropriations before a new Congress takes office in January, although election results will likely determine the path forward on FY25 government funding.
While the House and Senate Appropriations Committees have both passed their FY25 Labor-HHS-Education spending bills out of committee, neither has been considered on the floor.
