White House Sends Congress a Detailed FY18 Budget

President’s Full Budget Proposal Calls for Orderly Shutdown of CNCS in FY18

Today, the White House released a full budget proposal for fiscal year 2018, an expanded version of the Administration’s “skinny budget,” which was released earlier this year.

The Administration’s FY18 budget proposal calls for the elimination of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), AmeriCorps, and Senior Corps over the course of the next year. If enacted, the President’s proposal would support the orderly shutdown of CNCS operations, covering costs associated with staff buyouts, early retirements, and reductions in force until the agency’s closure at the end of FY18.

Congress now has the opportunity to protect funding for national service. In the coming months, congressional leaders will work to determine funding levels for all federal programs for FY18.
