College Possible was founded in Minnesota with the goal of expanding college opportunity, access and success for low-income students. AmeriCorps members who serve with College Possible provide an intensive curriculum of coaching and support to low-income students from their junior year of high school through college graduation.
This year, over 200 College Possible AmeriCorps members and VISTAs are serving 22,000 students across six states: Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Students who participate in College Possible programming are two times more likely to enroll in a four-year college and five times more likely to graduate. More than 1,000 AmeriCorps members have served with College Possible since the program launched in 1999.
College Possible is a member of Voices for National Service, and helps to set the coalition’s policy agenda each year. “This coalition has made it possible for our six-city organization to have a voice in a national conversation about the power of social change through service,” says Jim McCorkell, CEO and Founder of College Possible. “We are grateful to this coalition for their efforts to bring the national service field together to achieve the common goal of expanding service opportunities nationwide.”
