National service members are already on the frontlines helping our communities deal with impacts of the pandemic. AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members have been supporting students and teachers with distance learning, serving at COVID-19 testing sites, setting up temporary isolation sites, organizing blood drives, providing child care for healthcare workers, delivering food and medicine to our most vulnerable, making support calls to the elderly and much more.

When schools reopen, students and school leaders will need help readjusting and trying to recover from the learning loss.

Voices for National Service is calling on Congress to strengthen and expand national service in the next COVID relief bill. Bicameral, bipartisan legislation – such as S. 3624/H.R. 6702, the Pandemic Response and Opportunity Through National Service Act – has been introduced to leverage the existing national service infrastructure to help address local needs created or exacerbated by the pandemic. This bill would expand the number of AmeriCorps members serving each year and increase the member living stipend and post-service education award to make a year of national service possible for more young people. It also expands Senior Corps eligibility and funds new digital tools for Senior Corps to offer more teleservice. If you would like more information on the bill please click here.
