Support the CORPS Act this August!
Each August, Congress goes on “recess”–but that doesn’t mean your legislators are on summer break!
Summer recess is a district work period when senators and representatives return to their home states and districts–so recess is a great time to let your members of Congress know about the importance of AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs in your community.
Even though August recess looks a little different this year due to COVID-19 health precautions, you can still take action to support your local national service programs. Here’s how you can help:
Letter to the Editor in Support of the CORPS Act
This August, we are asking national service supporters to submit a Letter to the Editor in their local newspaper expressing support for the CORPS Act and urging congressional leadership to include the funding and provisions of the bipartisan CORPS Act in the next stimulus package.
Letters to the Editor are an effective way to demonstrate local support for AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs, since members of Congress and their staff monitor local press. To make it as easy as possible, we have created a toolkit that includes a template Letter to the Editor, more information about the CORPS Act, and tips for submitting your Letter to the Editor to your local paper.
