For the first time in sixteen years, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies received testimony from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). CNCS Chief Executive Officer Wendy Spencer was called to testify on President Obama’s fiscal year 2017 budget.
During the hearing, Spencer discussed the President’s budget request for CNCS, which calls for a $1.1 billion investment in the federal agency. She emphasized the impact national service members are having in local communities through service with AmeriCorps and Senior Corps.
Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) commended Spencer for her efforts to educate members of Congress about the important work of CNCS and its core programs. He cited this work as a key reason for the increased investment in CNCS in FY16.
